Awake times for 10 week old?
07-09-2009
Q: Thank you so much for responding to me last time. Well, my son is 10 weeks old now and things are definitely better. I subsequently went and bought Sleep Sense which has been a big help. I just have a few more questions: How long does he need to sleep if he's had an awake time of 80 minutes? Or if he wakes up from an hours sleep, how long can he be awake before he needs to sleep again? So basically what is the ratio of sleep time to awake time? During the day, how long should I spend trying to get him to sleep after his awake time? Sometimes I spend an hour trying to get him to sleep only for him to...

Q: My baby Danielle is approaching 7 weeks. I bought your book Baby Sense when she was about a month old, and have been applying the principles as much as possible. She is my third baby - so one would think that I should have the sleep issues sorted out long ago. But I have not been very good at getting my babies to sleep. In the early weeks all was fine and then suddenly bang no more sleeping during the day, unless I lay down with or held them. Again with Danielle all was well initially and then boom it is over. I will admit that I have been better at getting Danielle to sleep, but I can...

Q: Hello, 1) My six week old girl has always hated to be swaddled, but her Moro reflex is extremely strong, and she constantly wakes herself up! Do you have any suggestions as to how to get her to sleep without repeatedly waking herself up? 2) She rarely makes it through one 45 minute sleep cycle. If she's been fed, do you recommend that I try to get her back to sleep? If so, how soon should I go in to comfort her? Or, if I should go in and get her, do I play with her for an hour and then put her down again? Because of these two issues, I feel like she is constantly overtired during the day and...

Q: Dear Meg My baby was born on 34weeks and spent the first 2 weeks in the Neonatal ICU. When we brought her home, it was high winter and very cold. I'm also breastfeeding and it helps if she is in bed with us. She has reflux and we have to be close to hear when it happens. Now she is 8weeks old, when should we move her to her own bed? I don't want her to feel abandonment or feel we are rejecting her. Please help!!! When will she sleep through the night? Greetings Melissa A: Hi Mellissa I know exactly how you feel – the exhaustion has just set in and you can’t imagine how you can continue feeding...

Q:Hi Meg, I have a very happy and awake 10 week old daughter that just won't sleep enough during the day. Here is my situation: She feeds very well and is almost 7 kg (60 cm tall). 3.5 at birth. Her last feed of the day (with bath) is at 6 pm and I mostly put her down at 7:30 and then she wakes between 5 and 6 am the next morning. This has been carrying on like this for a few weeks now. Due to her good sleep at night, to fit in 5 feeds, I feed her 3 hourly or 3.5 hourly, depending on when she wakes up. She has been able to stretch for 4 hours without feeding since early days. I feed her now mostly...
