QUESTION I'm having problems with my 14month old baby girl at night....for the past 3-4 weeks she's been waking up at 2-3am crying and we cannot calm her down unless we show her videos on our iPads or cellphones to distract her....this lasts for about an hour or more until she is eventually too tired to watch and then falls asleep again. I don't believe it's night terrors as she is fully awake in her cot when I go to her room.Could it just be nightmares as she is developing an active imagination? For the past 3-4 weeks she has also been sleeping much later...between 9pm-10pm. She...

QUESTION My son is 1 year old and just after he was 6 months we did sleep training with him and it worked wonders!! He has been sleeping from 7-5:30 every night, but since a few weeks ago he started waking up upto 4-5 times a night. Q: I am really at my wits end!!  My son of 18 months has never learnt to fall asleep by himself, which I know is mostly my fault.  When he was smaller, I rocked him to sleep every time he woke up.  During the day he was also rocked for his morning and afternoon nap. When he turned one at the end of November 2008, we decided to try sleep training, as we were getting less than 6 hours sleep a night (interrupted).  First we put him in bed with his bottle and a teddy, and lay next to him on the single bed in his room.  My husband and I would lie there until he fell asleep, and then leave the room. As...

1am, I hear a stirring in the room next door, but just roll over and go back to sleep.  1:05am shuffle shuffle shuffle in the passage.  I ignore it.  Suddenly a hand on my face and my blankets are being pulled off me. In he creeps, quickly crawling over me to be in the middle.  I grab a pillow from the floor and give it to my 3 year old.  “Go to sleep buddy!” I say in the hope that we can all fall asleep again quickly.  But it is not to be.  He has forgotten his Taglet and his Tati Bear and can’t seem to sleep without them.  I get out of bed, eyes closed and feel my way to his bedroom...

Toddler Roaming

Q: I was very excited to receive the Baby Sense newsletter this month as your article on Toddler Roaming is just what I needed.  I have a baby girl who will be 3 in December and over the recent months have began experiencing extreme difficulties in getting her to stay in bed and sleep.  I have followed the Baby Sense guide and am now working through the Toddler Sense and firmly believe that it has made all the difference in raising my child thus far!  I am so desperate now – I have read article after article, swapped advice with other parents and just cannot come right with this...
