QUESTION I have a 3 week old baby boy, who has now become colicky. Everything he drinks, like water and breast milk doesn't seem to stay down. He is always bringing it up after a feed and especially after a burp. Is that a problem, and how can it be prevented? ANSWER Many babies do burp up some milk and this usually doesn't cause discomfort. If the milk curds burn his oesophagus it may be painful. To help your little one: Firstly, do not feed any water. Exclusively breastfed babies do not need water in addition to milk. Secondly, if he is gaining weight nicely, try not to feed more frequently...

QUESTION I have a 4.5month old baby who is a terrible sleeper! She wakes sometimes up to 6 times a night. She doesn’t have good day sleeps, she will sleep for about 20 min 3 times a day! She is at crèche so for her to be in a set routine during the morning (I fetch her at 1pm) is a bit impossible! I started her on rice cereal last week, which she has 3 times a day. When it comes to her bottle feeds she won’t finish a full bottle most of the time – when she wakes up at night I give her some milk and she settles quickly and will sleep until she wakes up again! I am not sure if I...

I have tried feeding at longer stretches of time, feeding with little distraction, etc. Today she drank 150ml at 7:30am and only drank again at 1:30pm, then not much in the afternoon and not much again at 7:30pm...

Q: My little girl, Mischa is just over 4 months. I am breastfeeding every Four hours during the day. I bath her at 18h30, feed her then she settles. The only thing is that she wakes up in between feeds - she starts Kicking her legs and her head moves from left to right - very irritable. She only settles if I pick her up again and rock her to sleep. Initially I thought it might be cramps - but I am very conscious of my diet, and surely it shouldn't affect her still so much at...

Q: I know that Megan is mum to a reflux baby and I wanted to get some tips as to how she dealt with this exhausting situation! My little guy is 12 weeks now and we are basically just trying to survive one day at a time. He is really uncomfortable and difficult to settle - always first falling asleep against me and then being put down on his tummy. I am using Gaviscon, Losec, etc but have found no major improvements. I was wondering how I can...
