Allergies and the introduction of solids
27-09-2011A mom on our Facebook site posted this information about nut allergies and because it is such a misunderstood and controversial area, we felt that this post warranted a full response. The mom wrote the following: When my son weaned onto solids we discovered that he had allergies to cows milk, wheat, gluten and eggs (blood tests were done at this age) we were referred to two dieticians by pediatricians, this seems to be the standard path. Both dieticians were not much help, it's not rocket science to figure that foods containing allergens must be avoided. At age 3 we asked our paed to refer us to an...

The womb is the ideal environment from every perspective for your developing baby. It is warm and tight, with lulling movement and meets your little one’s every need. It is from this ideal environment that your baby emerges into our busy and much less baby-friendly world. Meg Faure, OT and co-author in the Sense Series, looks at ways to ease your baby’s transition on the day of her birth by making little adjustments to the delivery room. Touch Without question the very best you can do for your baby in terms of touch in the first few days is to hold your baby skin-to-skin. The familiar...

If your baby is uncomfortable at night, his sleep may be disturbed and your baby will wake in the light sleep states. We know that itchy skin or sore patches on the skin can be a menace when it comes to sleep. We asked Ann Richardson, Registered Nurse and Midwife, owner of the Sister Ann’s well baby clinics, and co-author of the baby best seller Baby Sense (Metz Press 2002), author of the best seller Toddler Sense (Metz Press 2005), and co-author of the recently released Sleep Sense (Metz Press 2007), to discuss common skin conditions that may affect your babies sleep. An infant’s skin has...

07-09-2009Q: My 4-week old daughter, who is currently on NAN1, has really beenstruggling with winds and a little reflux. I know that the TelemantColic Drop bottle states that 8 drops before every feeding (whenrequired) is okay. What I would like to know is if it is okay to giveher one or two drops routinely before every feed as I can see that itis really helping her sleep better, eat better and digesting theformula milk better. I am just unsure about the potential healthdanger (if any) the drops may cause eg. enhancing reflux due toacidity? Or are they safe to be given as part of a feeding routine?May these...

Q: PLEASE HELP!!! Our 6 months old baby and only goes to sleep at 1am every night for the last 3 months, before that her day and nights were switch. We are both so exhausted and don’t know what to do anymore. She only sleeps +/- 3- 4 hours during the day. She is also on Epilim for epilepsy (could this be the cause for not sleeping before 1?). A: Thank you for your mail. Epilim should not cause any sleeping issues with your little one - it actually makes one drowsy, not hyper, so I don't think there is any correlation. I would recommend that you consult with a clinic sister in your area to get a...
