Q: I literally cannot anymore and now feel that my need for help has become a dire straits situation. I have ten and a half month old twin boys and to date neither of them sleep through the night and as you can well imagine, my husband and I are drained to the max. I have bought practically everything that is Baby Sense that has something to do with sleep. I have bought Baby Sense, Toddler sense, Sleep sense, the taglet blanket for the two, Womb to World, etc etc. And nothing is working. They are waking up quite a few times before 12pm and need to be put back to sleep, sometimes quick, sometimes up to...

Q:  Since 8 month old baby was born she has had a huge problem with winds and indigestion this is due to her throat problem called Laryngomalacia. I will just give you a bit of a background about Laryngomalacia,  a very common condition of  infancy, in which the soft, immature cartilage of the upper larynx collapses inward during inhalation, causing airway obstruction. Reflux goes hand in hand together with Layngomalacia so my daughter Kristin wakes up frequently with wind during the day and at night. At night it seems to be worse and she will at times wake up every 40 minutes and unfortunately I...

Q: I have felt instinctively that carrying my baby as much as possible would give him a great sense of security and that I would bond well with him. That I feel I have done but I seem to get a lot of resistance from my family saying that I am spoiling him and that I am setting myself up for a clingy child and that when he cries I should not feed his demands. Please would you tell me where I can find material to support my beliefs so that I can have an educated answer to my resisting on lookers. He is a lovely kid and I feel that he only "demands" when it is something he needs. I also see that a lot of...

Q: I would like Meg’s opinion on whether it is advisable to send a 12 month old baby to daycare. I work full time and am considering sending him to day care VS home care with a nanny. I would prefer the daycare myself, as the one of my choice (Best Buddies in Hout Bay), is an absolutely amazing place. But if it is going to be detrimental to his development, ie over stimulation etc being around 15 other 1-2yr old kids (with 4 carers) ALL DAY, I will not want to do it. The nanny I have is great with kids, but there are always complications in employing someone yourself…. I need to let the...

Q: Hello Baby Sense, I have bought and read both your books Baby Sense and Sleep sense and yet I am unable to get my 1 year old son to sleep through. Do you know of anyone that would be prepared to stay with me for a few days and help teach him to sleep through? He was diagnosed with neonatal seizures at 1 week old and is on medication for it still. Thanks. Sheila A: Dear Sheila, Your case is complicated by the fact that your baby is on medication and there may be side effects that impact on his sleep. Also you may have difficulty with separation from a little one whose course has not been plain...

Q: Our newborn hates the bathing experience. What can we do to make this a more pleasant experience for her? As soon as we put the shampoo in her hair while she’s still covered in the towel she begins to cry. By the time she’s eased into the water she’s worked herself into up into a real state. A: Dear Kirsten, Most newborns hate bathing, so don't worry too unduly about her crying. Perhaps wash her hair only a few times a week rather than every day, and maybe top and tail her every second day, and skip the bath on that day. If she simply cries anyway, handle her firmly and confidently, and get...
